Social media is a great place to meet and network with people from all flocks of life. Too many people jump into social media these days to market their business with no idea of how best to maximize this opportunity.

If you are looking to stand out on social media, you don’t have to come up with something unique or creative. You just have to be willing +to put in the work.

One challenge that small business owners face with social media is how they can stand out in the crowded marketplace.

Relax as I share with you how you can stand out on social media.

7 Strategies to help you stand out on social media.

  1. Pick the Right Social Network

This is the first step you must take to get things right. Not because you are looking for ways to stand out on social media you should just jump and start opening accounts on all social networks. You must first sit down and figure out how you can use these social networks to market your products or services.

Not every social network will be okay for you. It is even advisable you don’t join more than three social networks unless you have someone who will be handling the accounts on your behalf.

You should take your time to know who your target markets are and have a good understanding of the social networks they use. If you don’t go with the right social network that your customers are populated in, you will end up wasting your time and energy. It will look like fitting a square peg into a round hole.

With over 1 billion active users on Facebook, it is one ideal social media platform you must leverage to stand out. Facebook promotes the development of organic relationships with people.

Aside from Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Steemit are other social platforms that also work best, especially for businesses whose product needs to be showcased visually.

Nevertheless, just be sure of the social network that will work best for you and your business.

  1. Be Social

Another way you can stand out on social media is to become social. You will have to participate and contribute to conversations that interest you and can work for your advantage. Don’t be the person that people only get to comment on his post or share, and you don’t get to reciprocate.

Try as much as possible to also comment on other people’s posts and share too. This is how to build relationships on social media to get recognition.

Contribute good, engaging, and inspirational posts on your timeline, groups, and page. Find others that are interested in your niche and partner with them to produce something complimentary to both of your efforts.

Aside from that, practice celebrating peoples’ special days or happy moments like birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, etc. Be genuinely interested in others and they will genuinely be interested in you.

  1. Avoid Spamming

Social media didn’t exist 20 years ago. But social media marketing is now the primary advertising spend for B2C businesses around the world. Tiktok influencers and Youtubers are now the new celebrities. Online influencers now partner with multinational brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton on social media marketing campaigns. This helps brands with improving their image as well as showing marketing innovation through social media collaborations. But too many social media collaborations with brands could come across as spamming and ruin your personal reputation with followers.

Spamming is now a big issue on social media and can come in various ways. In case you don’t know what spamming is, in simple terms, it is the act of sending the same message indiscriminately to your audience or the act of promoting a product or service on someone else’s group, page, or timeline without permission.

Marketing your product or service without permission is not the right way to get noticed and stand out on social media. Self-serving posts should be limited.

If you must sell anything, focus more on sharing information that can be of value to your target buyers before marketing the product or service. This will help them see you as a genuine authority in your niche.

For every selling post, you should drop, make sure you have first dropped a minimum of 3 non-selling or educative posts. That is what I do to get people to notice me and later sell to them.

  1. Always Use Images on Your Posts

Content with images reaches more people than content without. If you are on Instagram, you should make sure your photos are of high quality and are informational or inspiring using good hashtags. This way, people get to like your photos and eventually follow you.

For Facebook, don’t drop a post without accompanying it with a photo. The Facebook algorithm favors posts with images over posts without. Aside from that, the eye is so much easier to catch a story with images than just content only.

Regardless of the social network you are using, let your posts be accompanied by visual content so as to generate much engagement.

  1. Share Videos

Video is incredibly powerful. It is a good marketing tool that can make you stand out on social media if done right. This might be difficult for you to do, but it helps in your personal branding. Majority of your audience will appreciate the idea. It is important to mix up your content with videos.

Don’t wait until you feel like your video is 100 percent perfect before you upload and share it. Producing and sharing good videos is a sure way to stand out on social media. You can also go further to share live videos with your followers.

  1. Demonstrate Your Expertise Through “How-to” Contents

This is somehow related to content marketing. Take advantage of your expertise and knowledge by creating “How-to” content that inspires and serves the needs of your followers. Creating valuable “How-to” content is a sure way to generate a big following. But, as you create your content, have your target audience in mind.

  1. Be Concerned in People

I mean it here. If you fake it all for the purpose to sell your product or service, they will one day eventually know. One quick and easy way to stand out on social media is to be more interested in people than you are to yourself. Find topics that interest other people and get them talking about their interests.

Following these tips will greatly help you stand out on social media and become an influencer in your niche.
