Why a Sectional is a Perfect Solution for the Reception Area of Home Office

Are you looking for a way to expand your home office area without taking away from your family’s space? Making room for a home office can be tough, especially if you are trying to create a space that you would be able to use for both family and office.

You might have a separate room or space for your office, but if you will have clients coming to your home, you should have some type of reception area for them to sit in while they wait. If you have a home in a traditional layout, the living room is the first thing your clients will see.

Of course, you don’t want to just give up your living room for your work. You will want to use that room for other visitors, friends, and family. But it doesn’t have to be either-or. You can make this room work for you in a number of ways, sometimes with little adjustment.

One of the best ways is to make this space work double duty, all you really need is a nice media chest and a small sectional. Here is how to make the perfect reception area without sacrificing your living room.

Why a Sectional is a Perfect Solution for the Reception Area of Home Office

Step One: Find the perfect small sectional

A sectional has a lot of advantages over other living room furniture. For one thing, a sectional offers more seating per inch than a regular set of furniture. The sectional is all one piece, or it is designed to look as such. This gives you more seating in a smaller area, rather than a loveseat and a couple of accent chairs.

The perfect sectional for a reception area doesn’t have to be large. After all, if you are working from home you probably don’t have a stack of clients waiting around to see you. But you do want your furniture in any room they will occupy to be professional and clean. A leather sectional, or faux leather, is the way to go when you want a professional air to your living room/reception area.

Step Two: Hide the entertainment

Most people have at least a television in their living room, and many also have game consoles and new game systems, games, movies, music, DVD or Blueray players, and all of the accouterments that go with it. But having all of that out in the open makes your living look like, well, a living room. You don’t want that with high-end clients.

You don’t have to get rid of your entertainment area, but you should design one that is somewhat hidden from sight with beautiful furniture. A media chest in the traditional style is a great option. Even though a media chest is technically a piece of bedroom furniture, it can give an air of sophistication to the space while hiding all of those media accouterments in a stunning piece that grabs the eye in a new way.

Step 3: Add a console table

If you’re going to have people waiting in your makeshift reception area, you should also offer them some refreshment. A console table added to the back of the sectional gives you a beautiful place to feature coffee, tea, and delightful snacks like muffins, cookies, or other pastries. This helps give your area a relaxed but professional feel in which people will feel comfortable.

A website that sells sectionals will have these furniture pieces as well, so you can get everything at once from brand collections that work well together. Check out online furniture catalogs for more ideas.
